George is our only home bred dog with a call name other than his
registered name. George was the smallest pup in his litter, born
in the middle of the Rugby World Cup being played in Australia
in 2004. George Cregan , the Captain of the Australian team, called
the Wallaby’s, was playing at halfback, therefore always
at the back of the scrum. On returning home from work each evening,
Klaus would come into the whelping room and ask “how’s
Fabula, how’s the puppies and how’s little George?” as
he was always at the back of the scrum waiting for a chance to
dive in and grab something, just like the Wallaby’s captain
waiting for the ball. When the litter were about 3 weeks of age,
Klaus came in one night and asked “How’s little George?” – he
popped off a teat and walked over to Klaus, one eye open, one still
shut – and he has been "George" ever since. He
knew who he was.
He has developed into a deep chested, very well muscled, mature
male with a huge personality. A firm favourite with everyone at
Breed Stalls, Pet Expos etc., and like his namesake George Cregan,
many times he has come from the rear and “saved
the day” at shows. In fact as his very first show he won 3rd in Baby Puppy
Sweepstakes. The Judge loved him but couldn’t see him move properly as
he had an attack of the sillies and would not trot. He went on to win Baby Puppy
of Breed and to compete for Best Baby in Group – still wouldn’t trot
but managed to win regardless. After that on to the General Specials ring to
compete for Best Baby Puppy in Show. By this time he was bored and wanting to
sleep, so to brighten him up, Nancy shared Pancakes with cream and homemade blackberry
jam with George. Klaus walked him in to the ring, thinking they were just making
up numbers as the puppies who came 1st and 2nd in the Sweepstakes were also in
the finals. Unbelievably George decided not only to trot, but to look happy doing
it, then half way around the ring he did a leap into the air, then back to a
perfect trot. Best Baby Puppy in Show – how was that!!!
George is always a favourite with visitors and has a different act for each occasion.
He always impresses with his fitness and agility. George believes he can “walk
himself” – he always takes the lead in his mouth and walks at heel
properly, with no-one holding his lead except himself. |
